First Nations Educational Assistant Program

 

The First Nations Educational Assistant certificate program prepares students for a fulfilling career that supports student success in the classroom. This program focuses on First Nations principles and equips you to work with diverse students in an inclusive environment. You will learn how to help students succeed in school through mentoring, role modelling, advocacy, and hands-on experience.

With a culturally responsive approach, students in this program will gain the skills needed to provide academic, social, emotional, and cultural support to students while empowering families in both schools and First Nations communities, strengthening their cultural identities and creating a sense of belonging in the school community.

As a First Nations Educational Assistant, you will be qualified for positions in kindergarten through grade 12 within schools. Additionally, job opportunities extend to specialized settings outside of schools, such as preschools, daycares, and other organizations that support education and development.

  • Practicum Preparation (3 days) *St John’s Ambulance Training is part of the preparation.

  • Practicum (4 weeks)

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

You are invited to apply if you have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent standing, or Mature student with a 60% in Grade 12 English and Grade 12 Mathematics or higher.

  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable/ Persons, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry Check

  • An official transcript

  • Applicants may be asked to provide a sample of prior academic writing and participate in-person interview

  • Sponsorship letter

 

***This may be offered through the Modular format depending upon interest.  This could potentially begin September 2025.
